DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is contesting the 2026 Assembly elections from Kolathur in Chennai, seeking a fourth consecutive term from a constituency he has firmly turned into a political stronghold.

Stalin has represented Kolathur since 2011 and won the seat in three successive elections — 2011, 2016 and 2021 — establishing it as a DMK bastion in north Chennai. In the last Assembly polls, he secured a landslide victory by over 70,000 votes, underlining his continued dominance in the constituency.

Part of the Chennai North Lok Sabha segment, Kolathur has come to be seen as a reflection of Stalin’s political strength and governance record. His decision to shift here from Thousand Lights in 2011 proved pivotal, with uninterrupted victories since then cementing his hold over the seat.

Over the years, Stalin has focused on transforming Kolathur into a model constituency through infrastructure upgrades, education initiatives and welfare measures. Civic improvements such as stormwater drains to address flooding, park development, and better public health facilities have been central to his development push. Among his notable initiatives is Mudhalvar Padaippagam, a co-working and learning space designed to support students and young entrepreneurs, which has since been replicated in other parts of the state.

The 2026 contest in Kolathur is shaping up to be a multi-cornered fight, with AIADMK’s P Santhana Krishnan and TVK’s VS Babu among those challenging him, making it one of the most closely watched seats in the state.

Beyond Kolathur, Stalin carries the responsibility of leading the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance’s campaign across Tamil Nadu. He has blended large-scale roadshows with more personal outreach efforts, while framing the election as a broader ideological contest centred on Tamil Nadu’s identity and autonomy.

Kolathur, in many ways, mirrors Stalin’s political journey and standing in the state. As he seeks a fourth straight term, the constituency remains a crucial test of his leadership, governance record and electoral resilience.
