DMK | சேப்பாக்கம்-திருவல்லிகேனி | தமிழ்நாடு
முன்னணி

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is contesting the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency in Chennai, seeking a second consecutive term from a seat long considered a DMK stronghold.

The 48-year-old DMK leader and Youth Wing Secretary is the sitting MLA from the constituency, which was once represented by his grandfather, former chief minister M Karunanidhi. His candidature underscores both continuity and the party’s generational shift, with Udhayanidhi emerging as a key face of the DMK’s next line of leadership.

In the 2021 elections, Udhayanidhi won the seat by a margin of over 69,000 votes, reinforcing Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni’s status as a DMK bastion.

His campaign blends local outreach with broader political messaging. He has been actively engaging with voters through roadshows and public interactions, while framing the election as a larger ideological contest centred on protecting Tamil Nadu’s rights and autonomy. He has also reiterated confidence in the DMK’s Dravidian model of governance, highlighting welfare measures and delivery-focused schemes as key planks of the party’s appeal.

The contest in Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni is expected to be closely watched despite the constituency’s traditional leaning, with the AIADMK fielding Adhirajaram against him. Beyond the immediate electoral outcome, the seat is seen as an important indicator of the DMK’s continued hold over urban voters and the acceptance of its leadership transition.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s candidature from Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni represents both a consolidation of DMK’s traditional base and a test of its evolving political leadership.

Candidate Info: Udhayanidhi Stalin is the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate contesting from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni (General) Assembly constituency for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
